Brighton & Hove Albion have submitted a £30m offer to sign Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur.

Vuskovic starred on loan at Hamburg in theBundesliga last season, where he scored six goals and earned inclusion in the division's Team of the Year.

The 19-year-old's performances on loan in Germany have seen him emerge as one of the most coveted young defenders in Europe.

Brighton have now made an approach to sign the Croatian centre-back, who is currently with the national team at theWorld Cup.

The Athletic are reporting that a £30m offer has been lodged, with Vuskovic open to the move. The defender views Brighton as a good step for his development and admires head coach Fabian Hurzeler from his time in the Bundesliga.

Brighton's bid for Vuskovic comes amid Tottenham's pursuit of Seagulls' defender Jan Paul van Hecke. Spurs have had two bids rejected for the Dutch international, and are expected to return with an improved offer.

Brighton's interest in Vuskovic could help facilitate Van Hecke's transfer to North London, though it remains to be seen whether Spurs sanction the exit of the highly-rated teenager. Tottenham have also signed centre-back Marcos Senesi from Bournemouth on a free transfer.

Clubs including Bayern Munich and Barcelona have checked in on Vuskovic's progress this season. However, Vuskovic is open to the idea of signing for Brighton as a potential stepping stone to an elite European club.

Brighton have nurtured talents included Moises Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister, Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro before sales to Champions League clubs.
